What the What? A Workshop for All People Where We Will Use Powerful Questions to Reinvigorate Your Self, Your Relationships, and Your Life.

I have spent my adult life pursuing questions. I’ve seen how the right question flings doors open and changes everything, or a few things, or one thing. I love a good question. When I was at Occidental College, my writing professor asked, What are you doing here? and, to my parents’ horror, I answered by dropping out and waitressing and working at a publishing company for a while. I was gathering stories. I was getting back into what felt like me. Sitting in a classroom can be not for the greatest good (even if it looks good on paper) if your whole self wants to be out doing other things.

Good questions aren’t always convenient or easy, but, like a chiropractic adjustment, they can bring a deeper hum of alignment into your body and life.

In elementary school, I played Dorothy in The Wizard of Oz, and when the wizard asked me what I wanted, I stepped out of Dorothy and became myself. “I don’t know,” I said. It’s natural not to know what you want when you’re a kid, but when you are an adult and you aren’t sure if what you have is what you want, or if you don’t have a sense at all of what you actually want, life is less rewarding and fun than it could be. Essentially, you are less alive than you could be.

In this workshop, I’ll pose 5 questions and give you a little time to write your answers. You’ll read what you wrote to the group because, I believe, it’s in the reflection of community where we really see ourselves. It’s also in hearing other’s voices when new ideas can come to life inside of you. My goal is for you to leave the workshop like you just drove through a carwash, and your life and sense of self feels and looks brighter. My goal is for you to leave feeling even more excited about this opportunity you have to be you in the world.

In creating these questions, I’ll be bringing in what I learned from following my dreams and writing two books and a movie (well, I didn’t know to dream about going to film festivals in New York City and Austin and Madrid, but I know now). I’ll be pulling from what I observed while teaching writing to people of all ages for over 30 years and from the wealth of questions I learned to ask while in Martha Beck’s Wayfinder Life Coach training.

We’ll meet on Zoom on Sunday, May 31, from noon to 3 PM PT. The cost is $150. Limit 12 people.

Mama always told me not to look into the eyes of the sun. But mama, that’s where the fun is.
