Compose Yourself, Adoption, Joe Hudson, and the Miraculous Birth

This is going to be a very short post. If you are interested, watch this coaching session between Joe Hudson and a woman who was told as a child to compose herself. This video was not about adoption, but also it was.

One definition of to compose yourself is to make yourself calm after being angry or upset.

This is what many adopted people do as children and then adults, right? They compose themselves so they can get up and deal with the day even though their mind and body are sending lots of confusing messages. What I found so beautiful about this session is that Joe Hudson saw the mask of composure and found a way to talk to the woman’s Self, to invite it to step forward and flush her cheeks, brighten her eyes, make her corporeal self suddenly come alive.

I’m not sure how many times I’ve watched this video. Maybe you should get to it before I wear it out.
