My New Book
Out of the entire book, I love the back cover most.
To give you an idea of what the book is like, here is the first section. My wish is that every adopted person who wants to tell their story finds a way to do so.
MY BASIC ASSUMPTIONS
1. You have the right to the facts of your life.
2. Many adopted people were told stories about themselves that weren’t true (Your mother loved you so much she gave you away) or had factual gaps (the name of your mother and father, the name of the person [people] who cared for you in the beginning of your life).
2. You have the right to create and share stories you feel are true about your life.
3. Annie Lamott said, “You own everything that happened to you. Tell your stories. If people wanted you to write warmly about them, they should’ve behaved better.” I love this. You go, Annie Lamott.
4. It is written in the Gospel of Thomas, “If you bring forth what is within you, what you bring forth will save you. If you do not bring forth what is within you, what you do not bring forth will destroy you.” Amen.
5. When your mother leaves you before you are ready to be left, you are not fully born to the world and to your life. Writing your stories can help you bridge the gap between I don’t exist and I exist.
